The 'Woodville Independents Party' was formed in 2007 under the provisions of the NSW Electoral Act, to allow its candidate to stand for Public Office within the 'Woodville Ward' of Parramatta City Council.
At the most recent council elections held in Septmber of 2008, Paul Garrard became the Party's first elected Councillor to Parramatta City Council.
Councillor Paul Garrard was then subsequently elected Deputy Lord Mayor.
Councillor Garrard was previously elected in 1974 as a Labor Councillor and has held office at each of the subsequent Council elections.
In 2006, due to disatisfaction with the ALP brought on by their neglect of the local community, mainly through the decimation of the local bus services, transport policy and a failure to address the mounting need for better education, Paul left the ALP and formed the 'Woodville Indepentents' in order to give a stronger voice to his local community.
